Suspension raises the risk of a student disengaging altogether. So the priority during reintegration is protecting their sense of belonging.
We do this by focusing on the problem the student was trying to solve with their behaviour — not just the behaviour itself. That doesn't mean excusing what happened. It means understanding it, so it doesn't happen again.
We use a process called Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) to rebuild the student's connection to school, identify what was really going on, and find better ways to solve that original problem going forward.
